{ Bali Trip 2014 }

So my family and I went to Bali from the 30th of June to the 3rd of July. Initially we didn't plan to go to Bali but Australia because I saw that the air tickets were really cheap.. But after adding all the taxes and everything, the cost to travel to Australia is actaully quite expensive so end up we changed to go to Bali. I've never stepped into any land of Indonesia before despite it being our neighbouring country, so this is a FIRST for me. Excited? Definitely, I was looking forward to the beautiful beaches and the water sports :)

Day 1:
We choosed Air Asia and this is the second time we took Air Asia, the first time was to Bangkok. So anyway, we had the system to auto assign seats to us and I ended up sitting with my sister in a 3-seater row. This means that we both own the 3 seats, this has gotta be so comfortable. The journey to Bali's airport only took 2.5 hours, pretty short, as compared to the other flights that I've taken before. And guess what? The magazine on board the airplane has Taylor's face printed on the front cover! I was honestly thrilled. HAHA! Anyway, when we reached Bali's airport, ww had to take a bus that brought us to the arrival hall. And there, we waited for about 45 minutes in the queue to get out passport stamped.. The wait was long.. But thank God for Wifi! Hahah! So we took a taxi and reached our hotel - Grand Whiz Hotel Kuta. :)

The welcome there was honestly.. surprising. The moment we reach, someone helped us to carry our luggage (mind you, it wasn't a very fancy hotel, just about 3 star hotel) and brought it to the reception. Then, the guy brought out welcome drink and even cold towel for us to freshen up.

it was like my favourite fruit - mango! Yes, it is a mango juice kinda drink and it is really really yummy. Funny how they don't have this on the daily buffet breakfast, I would love to drink this again.

The towels have a lemon grass scent which is really refreshing especially after the plane ride and the waiting.

So then the guy helped us to check into our room, set up the aircon and everything. The room isn't very big, but good enough. I mean I don't need too fancy room since I'll be out for most of the day right? So probably my favourite thing about the room is the huge mirror for me to do makeup/hair/etc.. and also of course to take selfies! :P

So it was about 2~3pm by the time we are done checking in and settling down and all.. Since it is the first day, we don't have anything planned and my family headed off to eat a late lunch, although honestly I wasn't hungry at all. (maybe cause I'm too excited hahah) We didn't order anything unusual, but the food came with this fried veggie.. WHAT? I didn't eat it, but the rest of my family did, and my sister claimed that it is delicious. I'm really not sure. So after figuring out where we are over lunch, we walked down the road and went to discovery mall. We were actually just looking for a road that will lead us to the beach.. The first thing that my sis and I saw was DOMINOS! But we didn't eat that because we saw something better - A&W!! Like c'mon, it is easily the best food on earth! So we walked around Discovery Mall for some moment before my dad decided to explore and walk to the end of the mall where there's another big glass door. LO AND BEHOLD, THE BEACH. THE BEAUTIFUL BEACH.

Words can't even describe how excited we were (or at least I am DUPER excited) when we saw the beach. It is honestly beautiful and really the first time going down to a beach like this.

I know this picture looks like the beach is very far away, but this was the view from Discovery Mall. Of course, my sis and I RAN down to the beach and onto the sand and water! What is beautiful beaches without jumpshots? We spammed so many photos that I feel that every other photo looks the same. LOL!

My sis and I had one tumblr-worthy photo each. Hahah! So we walked around and jumped around and ran around like some little kid, you can see what exactly happened in the video which I'll link to this post later. Besides all the water and sand, we saw cute little things..

Yes, you did not see wrongly, it is crabs! Teeny weeny crabs. They were EVERYWHERE! Like along the whole beach, it is filled with little holes about 1cm wide. And if you stand still enough, you will be able to notice little crabs scrambling everywhere. So after like about 20 to 30 minutes at the beach, we headed back into Discover Mall and shopped around there. We ate A&W and walked even more.. And finally when the sun set, we went out again to the outside of Discovery Mall (not to the beach but overlooking the beach) to look at stars. My friend told me that there will be stars at night.. I feel cheated, cause there were none D: sigh. But ohwell, we ate again (I know, i feel like I keep eating in this trip!) at this really cool bar that overlooks the beach we were playing at just now. And our seats were the coolest thing ever, the table and chairs were half submerged into a pool of water. And yes, it meant that my feet were also submerged underwater.

The experience was one-of-a-kind! :) I don't think I'll ever experience this again. Hahah. So for dinner, I had beer.. super sweet beer.. that don't taste like beer.. I don't even know if it is actually alcoholic.. Smirnoff..

Okay, so after dinner we just walked back to hotel and then I crashed because my body clock is at work again. Hahah, I think I slept at 11. After watching endless MVs on the television.

Day 2:
Got up early (body clock again) and then went for our buffet breakfast, we didn't know that we have to pay.. but oh well, we just paid for it and then went for breakfast before waiting for the drive uncle to arrive at out hotel. I came to know this guy through my colleague. So yeah, I contacted him and he agreed to bring us around Bali. So the first place that he brought us to on the first day of the trip (we engaged him for 2 days) was a Batik making place.. Looked at how people made Batik skirt from scratch. It is really pretty cool!

This is how they draw on the designs and everything, really a lot of hard work and no wonder the Batik that were sold there were so expensive! After the Batik workshop place, we went to this Ubud Monkey Forest which is honestly quite scary. We asked the person there and he said that there are about 600 monkeys living there. Literally there were monkey EVERYWHERE. and I even got attacked by a monkey. Thank God one of the staff was around and he helped to chase the monkey away. So the monkey everywhere were doing everything and anything. And some even in super awkward poses..

Yup :/ awkward. Then while walking around the forest, we saw this ONE monkey that looks like it is washing something at a puddle of water, I have no idea what exactly was the monkey washing or looking for in that puddle of water, I just thought that these monkey are really smart. Another monkey I saw was knocking something like nut or a rock onto the floor and kept on making the knocking noise.. I really wonder what that monkey was thinking. After coming our of the Monkey Forest, we walked around that are to shop a lil. The things there aren't the most unique, but some are nice.. I think here is where I got my first buy from Bali.

After the monkey forest, we went to look at the Rice Terrance. I don't remember seeing a Rice Terrance in my entire life, so this is a first too i guess? The moment we left the car, there were children like 4-8 years old coming to us asking us to buy the postcard. I literally have no money on me for the entire journey so I can't do anything much too.. We stood around and everyone took some photos. I don't know.. mine don't look like it is at the Rice Terrance. LOL

I mean I'm just so amazed at whatever I saw till this point of the journey, there's so many things that I don't get to see in Singapore and here I see the wonder of it all. :) We only hung around the Rice Terrance for a short while and my mom went for a few more buys before we went back to the car and head to the Volcano. I asked the driver uncle and he said that we are on the way up.. Like WHAT? I didn't even feel like we are going uphill the whole time. Like, SINCE WHEN? LOL. So when I got out of the car when we reached the top of the hill or mountain or whatever you call that, IT WAS COLD. I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THIS!! Just look at the above picture, that was when the temperature was still normal, but at the top it was like what.. 15 degree? I came out freezing. LOL. But the view made it all worth it.

I mean it was so unreal, I have never seen a volcano before. And so at the top of the place, we had lunch there. The weather was so cold that a warm corn soup is actually the best thing in the whole meal. Plus, the food there really isn't good.. So yeah, the place sucked but the view is wonderful. I can't believe that this volcano, called Kintamani is actually still active, means that it will still erupt. It has already erupted 24 times since 1800. Scary eh. Hahah! You can't really see in this picture but on the right background of the picture there's actually a lake. The lake looks greenish-turquoise, and it make me feel like going down there and look at those water close-up!

After this beautiful view, we headed downhill again and this time, I slept on the journey. When I woke up I don't even know where we are at, but anyway, I reached this place that has this sign on. Not sure what it meant, but we walked in anyway.

Then to my surprise, we actually arrived at a place where they made coffee, not like the facotry, but the place where they grow coffee plant and cocoa plant and like every other interesting herbs and spices like VANILLA. like omg? I have never ever seen a vanilla plant in my entire life. The coffee here isn't any other kind of coffee you find at NTUC, it is Luwak Coffee. It is made from Coffee Cherries that have been pass through the digestive system of an Asian Palm Civet, yes. It meant htat that animal ate it up and pooped it out and the coffee comes from the poop. It is after that roasted and grinded and all before it becomes the coffee powder. It is really expensive though.. almost double the price of normal coffee.

My sis went to look at the cocoa plant and she took a seed off it. Lo and behold it is really chocolate! She kept this in her bag... HAHAH.

After the short tour, we had coffee tasting - FREE! Singaporeans we all love free stuff and free coffee? I'm on it man! We tried all these coffee in the picture below, in small cups. They were very delicious! :D While enjoying coffee, it overlook yet another Rice Terrance.

After all the coffee tasting we decided that we would buy some back home and drink it.. Now i wished I bought more because we finished the coffee already.. D: At the shop, my sister also bought vanilla pods, like there were about 5-8 pods for like 9SGD.. WHATTT?! Hahah, so of course she got more than one packet of pods. Now we have vanillas at home.. YUM!

That's about all for the touring for first day, after the coffee tasting thing we went to factory outlet and shop a little, didn't buy too much cause nothing much caught my eye. And yup, that sums up my day :)

Day 3:
Just like the day before, we had buffet breakfast at the hotel and then the uncle came and fetch us again. He was late so while waiting my mom and dad decided to change some extra money because my mom assumed that there weren't enough for us to spend for the next 1 and a half day. So yeah, but it got really complicated and after like 15 minutes of counting and converting (our math isn't that good) we decided not to change and also cause the fact that the drive uncle is here already. On the journey, the uncle told us that he was relieved that we didn't actually change the money because those people actually cheat money. They would lay it out nicely for you to count like 50pcs of notes, but when they complied it together, they would have a trick and would let some of the notes drop off the table so when they hand it back to you again, you may only receive like 35 notes. and really, then the money changers earn alot. We were relieved too that we didn't change.

So after the whole incident, we went for water sports. This is deiniftely the part that I was looking forward to the most in the trip! So as you can see from this picture below, there are really a wide range of water sports for us to choose from. My sis and I choose diving. My dad accompanied us to go too. My mom was afraid so she didn't go. She sat down and relaxed a while.

So after paying the things we went on to this room where a guy showed us how to use the oxygen tank and how to breathe through it. Also, we got out diving costume and we went to change. This is how we looked like.. HAHAH! I find it quite funny though.

So we sat a boat and it fetched us to the middle of the sea. Honestly it is VERY scary. but for some reason I didn't feel scared. We wore our suit and got our oxygen mask and down I went. It was really scary because the current is strong.. VERY strong, plus the fact that I am not a good swimmer so all the more it seemed scary. When I swam a few feet down, my ear started to hurt because of the water pressure, i stopped the guys that lead me twice because the pain hurts a lot. but after that i tried with all my might to blow while holding my breathe and clear the pressure. And down down to the seabed I went. :) what I saw wasn't the best, but really just amazing. At first it was just a bunch of rocks but then the next moment i saw starfish. the guide took one up and handed it to me, it is the FIRST time i ever touched a starfish.. I can't believe it! (yes, i didn't touch a starfish before even in those touch pool at underwater world or other places) We saw like about 4 more starfish before we came to the important part, the sea anemone.. I don't know what to expect and I totally forgot all about fishes. Then the guy waved his hand over the sea anemone awhile and HERE COMES THE CLOWNFISH!!! they just swayed together with the sea anemone! So cute. And then also all around there were fishes everywhere around the reef. After that, I had to go up already.. Aww, I wished I stayed down longer! My sis did not dare to go down, she drank a few mouthfull of water and she decided to come up. My dad tried too and he came up too, so end up I was the only one that made it to the bottom to look at the amazing sea creatures :D When we got up to the shore, the guy felt bad and asked us to go and do other sports as a form of compensation because we really paid a lot for 3 of us but only me managed to go down.. He suggested jet ski or the banana boat or something. My dad and sis didn't want to do it anymore, and so once again, I WENT FOR JET SKI. I had to wear a life jacket, duh and i think i look pretty gone in the picture..

yup and after this, I went on the jet ski with the guide behind me. We started out slow but then he went on full speed, it was super fun!!! We rode on waves and just bounce off water, WHAT IS WATER? Haha, so after all these I went and change up and we continued to have lunch and then go to other places for our tour.

This is a picture of me TRYING to ride the jet ski! LOL.

Next place we went to is the Pandawa Beach.. The view was WONDERFUL. yet another beautiful, beautiful beach. We took some photos while on the hill that overlooks the beach and sea.

Then the uncle drove us down closer to the beach.. The waves were amazing. A perfect place for photos.

While I was about to sit down on one of the chairs under these umbrella, i suddenly saw a seashell moved.. I thought to myself, it can't be possible.. So I took a chance and lifted up the beautiful shell, and then to my surprised, REALLY there was a crab living in that shell. Hahah, i really did not expect to find this lil guy here.

Guess what we did to it? We took it back to the hotel and put it in a cup, so it stayed there in our room for once night. HAHA! After this beach, we went to another one.. I cannot remember what is the name of the beach, but that was a place where people surf! It is really very cool, I have never seen people surfing before with my own eyes. HAHA, now i sound like some mountain turtle again. So after that beach, we went to this wholesale souvenir shop and we got most of our buys there :) So yeah, that sums up the day.

Day 4:

We ate little bit of breakfast in the hotel room from food we buy from the local minimart the night before and then we went to discovery mall again for starbucks and more A&W! :D The bacon quiche from starbucks was super nice? Do they have it in Singapore too? Hahah. Then we also went to put the little guy back into the ocean. Before heading back to hotel. Then I had my massage session while my family just hung out, they didn't want massage. LOL. And then off to the airport we go, the airport is really better than I expected, I thought that there weren't any shopping thing in the airport but I was wrong! Apparently there were a lot of things to shop and yeah.

Then went on airplane and the journey back to Singapore was like chasing the sun. for almost 2 hours we had this view outside my window.. Awesome times. Thank God that this whole journey was so wonderful and we enjoyed ourselves.

I also made a Youtube video about it, watch it below!! :D

That's all people!! xx
