Eat. Play. Love.
I'm going to blog about something very very cool that I did today. Of course when you do fun stuff, you don't do it alone. I happen to go for an interview and Shawn accompanied me. So yeah, both of us walked from Farrer Park to somewhere in the middle of Bugis and Lavander. What exactly did I do? I made a bracelet for my mom. Well, she did not EXACTLY use it as a bracelet, probably because it is too big, she hung it around her bag. Close enough ;) Hahah! This is kind of just part one to my Mothers' Day gifts.. Probably there's gonna be a part three, but there will definitely be a part two! I'm excited about it too!
Anyway, I found out about this place after I saw Serene's Instagram. She also posted a photo of a bracelet that she did herself, it was too cute and like it's really sweet cause it is DIY. So I decided to stalk that place and do it myself. And I didn't know Xiaxue went there yesterday? Hahah! That's just way too cool. It shows that the place is awesome. Which it really is.
Okay, and this is how I started making the bracelet...
Step 1: Choose your accessories/paper.
Nope, you don't have to buy the markers cause they will provide. So all I got was the bracelet (on the very bottom right of the photo) and a piece of shrinking paper! So in total I spent $8.50.
Besides, I shared the paper with Shawn, so it's kinda slightly cheaper than that. After paying for the stuff, the staff there will give you a set of markers & coloured pencils. I didn't use the coloured pencils because you need to sand the paper before you actually draw/colour using the coloured pencils which was kind of troublesome. So everything I did was in marker.
Step 2: Draw!
When I just started doing it, I had pretty low self-confidence. So I no choice, I found a picture from a book and drew it on a piece of paper first. Oh did I say that they have a range of books where you can get ideas of what to draw? The books are actually for kids craft, but it has very simple to draw and cute cartoons! So after drawing, of course, use marker to trace it out on the shrinking paper itself.
Step 3: Add in the colours! (optional)
Of course, I added in colours because I drew instead of writing words. The colours really made a difference in the final product. If you decide to not colour it, it will end up being WHITE. Which... not really that bad. But I prefer colourful stuff. Besides, they are bracelet CHARMS, they should be colourful right? Okay maybe wrong.
Step 4: LET THE MAGIC BEGIN!
Now this is the real magic. Just put the paper into the oven/toaster and turn it to about 2 minutes and watch it shrink!
It's really very exciting to watch it shrink~ To add more joy to everything, I've made a video.
Step 5: Chain it up!
Of course, in order to make everything into a bracelet, you got to chain everything up into the bracelet itself. And so my final product looked like this..
Pretty, right? And because I still had extra paper and I didn't want to waste, I made something for myself too. Something I think that is too mainstream and hipster. I made a 'I Knew You Were Trouble' ring! Well, of course I also buy the ring there, and the staff helped me to stick it on.
You can obviously tell that it's my handwriting. Hahah, I love this ring though. (: But kinda regret it's too sharp.. i'm gonna use sandpaper and make it smooth-er! but still a triangle!
After saying all these, where exactly is the place?
