Music, coke and connect!
So, I was doing nothing much the past few days. And I couldn't think of anything to blog about, and finally today I went to school again for the start of the second part of the module, and that is Visual Arts. The module seems fun till now. Anyway, after the lesson I decided maybe I should share some of the videos that really impacted me during the lesson that my lecturer shared with us. This first one is called Landfill Harmonics, enjoy and let the video speak to you! If you haven't watch the video, just watch it! It's less than 5 minutes! So basically I was 'wow-ed' by this video. I mean really, this is what I called passion. These people have the passion for music, despite their immediate environment being a landfill and basically a heap of rubbish not mentioning that it is not a place for violin and instruments, they still made music. I'm so impressed, and when they play, it is from the heart. These people have talents, and they go all the way to find it to not only occupy them when they have nothing to do, but to also help the community around them. We are not even talking about a video that is 5 years or 10 years ago, this is only like 2 years ago? Look how real these things are. I can't help but to feel proud of these teens and children. These people are the ones really rising up above the storms and starting something new, even though it might not be appreciated. This not only saves the environment, but I think if their story is being heard even more widely, I believe that their living conditions will also catch people's attention. Personally, I feel blessed. I mean, I already have a violin, even thought knowing how to play them. What more can I ask for? This is really what I would call resilience. This is what it is all about. The second video is on a lighter note, it is the Coca-cola machine. This time, it is the 'Friendship Machine'! Check this out! ;) This machine is designed in a way the hle which you insert your coin into and the buttons is placed on top above the average human height, and in order to get the drink, you'll need someone to piggyback you or you climb onto someone to reach the buttons and to insert the coins. In return, you get double can/bottles of coke! If you didn't know, Singapore also had her own share of one of these unique machine and it was outside one of the LT at NUS! (: It is the 'Hug me' machine! Check it out! And last but not least. A video about connection. I've been saying I want to do it lately, and I guess I just found out how.. :) I mean, society has now becomes like this, in Singapore especially.. You don't see a MRT cabin without people texting away or plugged into their earphone and blasting their songs. These devices disconnect us from the world around us. Oh sure, facebook is to connect, but I don't think people talk as much in real life as they do on facebok, do they? This is what technology has done to the people of this generation, we are too dependant on technology. Like even what I'm doing now - blogging. Sometimes, we get too caught up with technology that we forgot about the real reason why we are even at that location. For example, you're eating with your family and then you start to use your phone to text, for disconnected yourself from your family and connect yourself to the world of technology and totally missed out the whole point of the dinner, that is to talk and bond, to fellowship. I can't deny, this is too common already. Especially during fellowships, people are texting, using their phone instead of engaging themselves in a deep and meaningful conversation. I think this comes in the right time, Chinese New Year is nearing and reunion dinners are everywhere. I think it is time to really REUNITE back families. It is going to be hard, but it is worth a shot! :) Speaking of Chinese New Year... Yesterday I went to some CNY shopping and I bought myself dresses. RED dresses! I never had red dresses before, and I feel that they are so.. SEXY! HAHA! I bought 2 dresses, for $35!
I felt that the dresses are very seductive. :/ heeeeez. Anyway, few days back I drew my FIRST tribal design! :D I think it looks great, what do you think?
PS: I've removed my cbox because it is always spammed by unknown people. You can still ask me questions via formspring or comment on my blog post (you can leave it as anonymous if you want) with the little link at the bottom!
