Box'Out

Something that I initially didn't want to go.. But I went anyway. I didn't want to go because I'll be going there alone, then I asked Weilun the night before and he agreed. So he came with me. Good idea? Maybe! Anyway, my sister joined us too, so that's more fun. We were there on time but the first group got delayed, so we waited outside until they came out before we go into the Warehouse @ Scape! The moment we sit down.. A set of wood is placed infront of us. Looks like what you'll get from Ikea, just a smaller version!

Yeap, it's just pieces of wood and a hammer and some double-sided tape. Oh, we also shared table with the other which I can assume they are from church too and they self-intro and we took some picture using the wood pieces! :P Hahaha, the picture is nice okay!

See? Hahaha.I was excited to start but before we start, they prepared a performance for us, it was awesome :) Jovin was performing too, so that's cool! But if only we were making the big Cajons...

Anyway, after the performance there were some lame talk :/ Then we finally got started to do this Cajon! So this is what we did.

Step 1: Tape the sides of the wood

That wasn't hard...

Step 2: Stick it together!

I actually told my sis to take a pic for me while I do because I want to blog :/ Hahah. Whoops. Anyway, this part is a little tricky because the wood is only joint together by double-sided tape and it is still quite flimsy. But this is basically the whole body of the Cajon.

Step 3: NAIL IT!

Nailing the Cajon at the corners to secure it was harder than I thought.. For me, most of the nails were good, like they weren't too inside or too outside. But my hand ache when nailing the box! It was quite tiring actually. And I was so scared that the small piece of wood will poke into my finger, that i super painful okay. So I was being super conscious! So taaadaa! I'm done nailing the box, well you can say I nailed it! (okay, bad pun)

Step 4: Sanding

See the edges of the boxes? They are still sharp and all, so we sanded it. The cajons are means to give to the elderly so of course we want the sides to be as smooth as possible so that it won't prick their skin or whatsoever.

Step 5: COLOUR!!

This is my favourite part, I think I kind of ran out of creative juices that day so I made a really plain and simple one, but on the other hand, Weilun did a perfect and cute minion!! This is mine..

And you can see Weilun's minion in this picture. If only it was a smiling minion. Hahaha, nevertheless, it is a nice job done! Mine was basically Faith, Hope, Love. So yeah.. Here's a picture of the JOL peeps!

Overall the experience was quite cool, like where else can you actually get to do your own cajon? But if only I can take it back home, of course! But to think that it is a gift to the elderly, it is all worth it. Did I say that it was a free event? Meant that I didn't have to pay to go and make the Cajon, all I need was to sign up and that's all. I'm looking forward to making some more Cajon! :)

Lastly, Selemat Hari Raya Adilfitri to all my muslim friends!!
