We went to a FARM, FARM, FARM, FARM!

Pretty much a screwed up morning but things got better afterwards! :) I woke up at 830am, I was like OMG late alr! I was suppose to report at the center at 830, so i just chiong-ed everything and ran to the center. Thankfully I reach there within 20mins :/ Then we settled the little ones and then Mrs Tan told me that I will be just taking care of Caroline. Honestly, I thought that it will be easy to take care of her, but turns out harder than I thought :/ Well, she isn't a very bad girl, just a little xiao jie. Hahah! :P So anyway, the bus came late and meanwhile the children sang their songs and danced. AVRIL IS SO CUTE TODAY. The children were all sitting down and singing then Avril suddenly stood up and walked infront and started doing the actions infront of everyone! Mind you, she's only PG! I totally went awwww :') that's my Avril! :D and if you don't know how cute Avril is, she is THIS cute:

I found her so cute with the hat while she was wearing her shoes and so I asked her to smile for a picture! :) She is so adorable, right? Hehehe. So she stood up and started dancing and then slowly one by one the N2 and K1 started to join her and within 2 minutes, almost the whole student body is up infront already! Hahah!

Spot little Avril at the left hand side first row? Hehehe! Then the bus came and we boarded the bus and out exciting journey begins! Honestly I am so excited for the field trip, I knew that it would be something educational for me! Although I'm not doing geography anymore, but it don't harm knowing more information about Hydroponics right? The only thing I initially wasn't looking forward to is the Butterfly Lodge.. :/ I was expecting myself to duck here and there from butterflies! HAhah! But anyhow, took some pictures on the way to the farm.

This is Caroline. I think we both look so pretty in this picture! :) Heez! We were kinda bored on the way there and so I took pictures with her. and of course also talking non-stop about what we saw outside. The farm is about a 15 minute to 20 minute away from Serangoon, it is located at Yishun! So yeap, the moment we arrive it was pretty hot. I mean the weather. And probably me.. hahah! my bottle also kinda leaked and so half my pants were wet. there is like this one big patch on my pants :/ haha! but the sun kinda dried it up in the end. So we started with the Herbs Tour! :) It is kinda fun, I get to smell, touch and even taste the herbs! It is kinda cool, like the different typed of mint and their uses! Educational, indeed! hahah!

This is the typical Peppermint. I don't think I need to state the uses of this Peppermint! :)

This is CHOCOLATE Peppermint. Yes, CHOCOLATE. The smell is like peppermint with a little tinge of sweetness to it.

This is the Lemon Balm.. I love the smell of it. The smell can relieve stress and it contains high amount of Vitamin C in it! :) It can be used to make tea and added to meat and fish dishes to remove the raw smell. I remember at this part when the tour guide was like "it helps to relieve stress.." then Shana turned to me and asked "Teacher Felicia, what is stress?" I laughed and so did the other teachers. Hahaha, little minds! ;)

This is the Heartleaf Houttuynia, in Chinese it is called the 鱼腥草. Just like the name in Chinese suggests, it smell like fish. RAW FISH. the yucky smell that makes you feel like puking. But surprisingly the name in English sounds so nice right? Hahah, Heartleaf cause the leaf looks like a HEART! <3 This stinky herb can be used to treat asthmatic cough (please don't ever buy it for me if I ever have my asthma attack again!) and also to increase immune system! Just put this leaf into warm/hot water and drink it! But again, it smells bad, REALLY BAD.

This is the Water Pepper aka Smart Weed. In chim terms, it is the Polygonum hydropiper lapathifolium. What a long name man.. -.- Hahah! Where can this be found? in LAKSA! yeap, it adds to the smell and taste of Laksa! it can help to regulate menstrual cycle for the ladies!

This is the Dill. In more chim term, it is the Anethum Graveolens. It helps in hiccups, stomach cramps (for all you ladies) and insomnia. The oil that is beng extracted from the seed of the Dill is used in gripe water. Those mineral water-looking kind of bottled water you see in minimarts or supermarkets.. It is also edible RAW. It is sweet! ;) I tried it! It can be infused in tea to relief stomach wind too..

Apologies, I forgot the name of this two, but I ate the one at the bottom, it tastes sweet! :) It is like 3 times sweeter than normal cane sugar. So this can be used as an alternative for people with diabetes.

So after the Herb Tour, we had a little break and then we moved on to the Hydroponics Tour. I think Caroline was getting a little moody during the Herbs Tour because of the sun, but thankfully I brought an umbrella. Suppose to be for rainy days, but still it came in handy! Caroline was getting tired and doesn't want to listen to the tour anymore, but her buddy here wants! It was too fun and educational for me! Hahah. Anyway, we continued to the Hydroponics Tour.. it was starting to get a little cloudy, but it was the perfect weather. It didn't look like it was going to rain soon and the sun isn't too hot, so that is great! :) We had to walk walk walk to reach the farming area. But the view was great.

Hydroponics is basically the science of cultivating plants without the use of soil. Does it save money? probably.

they can control the growth of the plants better in this way too.. by adding calcium, potassium and phosphorus for the various reasons. The seed can be sowed by putting two of it into cotton bud or sponges, small ones. Then they will be placed into the germination room.

Thereafter, they will be transferred to the Nursery. Then someone just jokingly say "N1 or N2?" Hahaha! So this is how it looks like in the Nursery. Small little plants starting to grow!

Then they will be moved into a greenhouse which looks something like the one below.. See the nets above? it blocks out 50% of the sunlight because if the plant receives too much sun, it might dry up and die! :(

Meanwhile, the view is kinda great, so I got Caroline and her sister Catherine to take a picture! Catherine is in the K1 class and she behaves way better than Caroline! LOL, just saying.

The 2 sisters!

Faylinn and Amber!

Xavier! He is a very smart boy and always very attentive in class. Playful too, but boys just gotta be boys!

So after the Hydroponics Tour, they actually took us into this fridge that is like.. 4 to 8 degree Celsius cold. It was SHIOK, i mean after all the walking and perspiring. The food were stored in the fridge, and guess what I saw? POTATOS!! :D if only they could sing they would be singing the Minion song from Despicable Me! Hahah! :P

Big potato and small potato beside it! I feel like eating all of it up now! NOM NOM NOM! After the fridge, we took another 10 minutes break and then we continued to our Butterfly Lodge tour! I was kinda scared. But still went in, and it was better than I thought. The butterflies didn't like fly away the moment we got near. Some even stood still while I take photos! :)

This photo below shows two butterflies mating. Or laying eggs. The one at the bottom (more dull coloured) is the female and the one at the top is the male.

Well, it is interesting enough to watch them lay eggs and the next interesting thing I saw was ..

Butterfly porn. Hahaha! Just kidding! But they are really.. doing their stuff. HAHA! I caught a video of it, it looks more like a wrestling match between two butterflies! They don't fly away despite the number of people standing around them. I think they just love the attention. LOL~ So i kinda didn't get any mosquito bite during the whole tour UNTIL I reach the Butterfly Lodge. le sigh. The mosquito freaking bite the back of my palm, and my right middle finger. (Seriously? my middle finger? what do you mean huh! haha!) Yeap, so that concluded the day and we went back! :D And just nice, little Avril is sitting behind me, I took a quick snap of her.

Oh, before we left, we actually got to do some shopping! So.. I bought Rosemary plant, one small cactus and xiao bai cai and also 2 packets of seeds! The tour also includes complimentary potted plant, which I got a Basil plant! :) I brought it home and my mom put it on top of the hamster cage. LOL! The one on the left is my Rosemary plant and the one on the right is the Basil plant! :)

... and my sis kept the cactus in the TOILET. whut.

So that concludes my morning, it was surely eventful, but it was also educational, VERY educational. Hahah! :) I checked out the price at the website and it is pretty cheap also. Hahah, so after talking so much, which farm is this?
